General Guidelines
The following guidelines apply to all Gaia Fund grant recipients.
For additional guidelines in your specific program area,
please visit the Funding Interests section.
TAX EXEMPT STATUS
Grant recipients must be tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or be able to demonstrate that they have obtained a 501(c)(3) organization as a fiscal agent.
GRANT SIZE
Annual grant amounts for projects and for general operating support usually range from $5,000 to $50,000. Grants in this category often include projects with finite funding needs, or those that provide seed funding for new initiatives. Grants for specific programs may be awarded in either a single payment, or in annual installments that may range from two to five years. The grant payment schedule will be determined by the Fund.
CAPITAL AND ENDOWMENT CAMPAIGNS
Gaia Fund will consider supporting capital and endowment campaigns, but typically prioritizes general operating support or specific program support. Grant awards in support of capital and endowment campaigns are typically at a level consistent with the amounts awarded for specific programs.
RENEWALS
The Fund may elect to renew grant support, but renewal is not guaranteed and grantees are cautioned to plan accordingly.
